INCIDENT VIEWER FOR CHERWELL

Move on.
Keep your
history accessible.

A Windows desktop viewer for your Cherwell data. Revisit records in a restored SQL Server database after migration or retirement of your service management platform.

AFTER THE MIGRATION

Your new platform handles today.
Your historical records still have a place.

How it works

PURPOSE-BUILT ACCESS

Find the record.
Recover the context.

Focused tools for looking up historical information in your restored Cherwell database.

Search, filter, navigate

Search Incidents, Problems and Change Requests by ID and filter by date range. Search Customers by name, email, phone or employee ID. Move through paginated results.

Go beyond the list

Open record details in a separate window. Read related journals for Incidents, Problems and Change Requests to understand the history behind a record.

Save stored attachments

Select and save an incident attachment to disk when its file content is present in the database. External files are not recovered from a database backup alone.

Print the details

Print record details through the Windows print dialog. To save a PDF, select a Windows PDF printer such as Microsoft Print to PDF. There is no direct PDF export.

DATABASE PERMISSIONS

Read queries. Read-only access is your SQL account’s job.

The application issues queries to read data. Have your database administrator supply an SQL account with read-only permissions on the restored database. The viewer does not enforce those account permissions for you.

FROM BACKUP TO BROWSING

Your database.
A straightforward connection.

The viewer connects to a restored database. Restoring the backup is a separate step handled in your SQL Server environment.

  1. 01 / PREPARE

    Restore your backup

Restore the Cherwell database to Microsoft SQL Server and make it reachable from the Windows computer running the viewer.

  2. 02 / CONNECT

    Enter your SQL details

In the WPF desktop application, enter the server, database, SQL username and password. Use a dedicated account with read-only permissions.

  3. 03 / REVIEW

    Browse your records

Connect, search and open details. Review journals, save available incident attachments, or print a record when you need a copy.

BEFORE YOU START

What you’ll need

  • A Windows computer for the WPF desktop app
  • A restored Cherwell database on Microsoft SQL Server
  • Network access and valid SQL login credentials
  • Read-only SQL permissions, configured by your administrator
  • The .NET 6 Windows Desktop runtime for a framework-dependent build
  • A Windows PDF printer, if you want to save printed output as PDF

Database compatibility matters. The viewer expects specific Cherwell tables and fields. Customised schemas and different versions should be checked with the trial; universal version compatibility is not guaranteed.

TIME-BASED LICENSING

Access for the time
you need.

Choose a licence period that fits your post-migration access window. All three options are for the same viewer.

PRACTICAL QUESTIONS

Know what
to expect.

Do I need a running Cherwell application server?

The viewer connects directly to SQL Server using the connection details you provide. Its data queries do not use a Cherwell application server. You still need a restored database with the expected schema and a working SQL connection.

Does the viewer make the database read-only?

No. The application’s database queries read data, but read-only access must be enforced through the SQL account’s permissions. Ask your database administrator to provision a suitable account.

Will every attachment be available?

No. Saving is supported for incident attachments whose file content is stored in the database. A database backup alone cannot provide files kept elsewhere. The viewer does not offer a universal attachment preview.

Can I export records to PDF or in bulk?

You can print individual record details and choose a Windows PDF printer to save the printed output as PDF. Direct PDF export and bulk export are not provided.

How does the 10-minute trial work?

The application starts in trial mode, with a 10-minute period measured from its recorded trial start. A valid licence is required to continue after expiry. Have your restored database and connection details ready before launching the trial.

Will it work with our customised Cherwell database?

Compatibility depends on the tables and fields in your database. Use the trial to check your restored copy. Do not assume that every Cherwell version, custom field or custom business object is supported.

Is this an official Ivanti product?

No. Incident Viewer for Cherwell is an independent ATElectronics product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed, sponsored or approved by Ivanti.
